"Vacation Woes?

Keep Your Fitness Game Strong with Functional Training!

I'm sure you're tired of feeling exhausted on your much-awaited vacations? Do you want to look and feel younger while keeping up with the youth of the world? Have you ever gone on vacation and felt exhausted from a hike, swim, or just climbing stairs to drop off the luggage? You spent all of that money, time, & effort only to take pictures at the top of that pyramid drenched in sweat with an exhausted smile.

Quick! It’s been a long day of walking, you’re in a foreign country and a skinny guy stole your passport, run after him, Go!

Well if this is your typical vacation, functional fitness training is the answer to your vacation woes.

Gone are the days when functional training was just for professional athletes and influencers. Nowadays, anyone can incorporate this effective form of exercise into their routine. Based on the teachings of Bruce Lee, functional training prepares your body for daily life activities. And with the help of nutrition and technology, you can take your workout to the next level.

Master Bruce Lee was so ahead of his time that he created things to which we have now coined terms. As you look at his handwritten "strange" workout  the question comes up, " Curling as much as squatting and randomly doing a few exercises twice?" I believe Master Lee was doing functional fitness without calling it that. His goal was explosive kicking and jumping power with little effort and maximum output. This is how you should think about your workout routine...it is not a routine, it is simply getting you closer to your goal. If your goal is to have the best vacation possible, consider your activities and train for it!

Later in life, Master Lee progressed his weight training and reportedly used this program 3 times per week to achieve the physique for The Big Boss (1971) and Way of the Dragon (1972):
Everything 2 sets:
Clean & Press.          8-12 reps
Barbell Curl.              8-12 reps
Overhead Tri. Ext.     8-12 reps
Upright Row.             8-12 reps
Barbell Squat.          12-20 reps
Barbell Row.             8-12 reps
Barbell Bench Press 8-12 reps
Barbell Pullover.        8-12 reps
Master Bruce Lee said, "Emotional content, not Anger. It's like a finger pointing away to the moon. Don't look at the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory."
My favorite quote from Master Lee is also something Yoda told Obi-Wan about Luke, in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) "This one long time have I watched. All his life he has looked away, to the future, to the horizon,. Never his mind on where he was, what he was doing."
Focus.

Health and fitness is a great way to do 3 things:

  1. Keep up with (or beat) the youthful.
  2. Look young,
  3. Feel younger, (in my opinion the most important thing)

When it comes to functional training, it's best to consult with a certified professional to know which exercises are best for your upcoming vacation activities. Don't rely on online sources as there's a lot of misinformation out there.

Nutrition plays a crucial role in maintaining or improving your health. So, make sure to consider your activities before embarking on your next adventure. You need all-day stamina for those long hikes and swims, and of course, for those swimsuit photos!

As the iconic Arnold Schwarzenegger says, "If it jiggles, it's fat." So, keep your body in tip-top shape with functional training and have a vacation that's full of memories, adventure, and confidence."
